Exporting Alembic ABC files and assigning the correct materials to the exported asset has traditionally been a frustrating and challenging part of that particular format, particularly for character models which deal with multiple materials assigned to a single mesh, as is often the case in high quality assets.
One of the most powerful new features of iClone 6.5 is the ability to export Alembic files from iClone to external programs, and at the same time generate custom mesh groups within that Alembic file that correspond with the number of materials assigned to it.
This allows users of all software such as Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, Lightwave, and Blender to import Alembic files from iClone complete with soft cloth animation, and also have the option to easily assign their materials to individual mesh groups that are generated from iClone. It's a breakthrough in Alembic export that we hope will save all users tons of time!
