I've been getting requests as to how I grade my footage. I'm a photographer first and really just starting into videography. I use this piece of free software called IWLTBAP LUT Generator. It allows you to convert your Lightroom Presets into your very own LUT to use on your footage. I've always wanted to create my own LUT. This is a great way to grade your footage if Premiere Pro is less desirable. I plan on refining my process and educating myself better within Premiere. But this gives a good starting point to get that cinematic color grading you are looking for.
Creating a cinematic color grade / color correction to me is about restraint. I see a lot of footage pushed too far and it looks like a bad Instagram filter. So, if you're a photographer just getting into video or a videographer looking for a new technique, editing in lightroom is a really intuitive way of doing this!
Remember, when you apply LUTs in Premiere Pro to add it into the "Creative" Tab and load it through "Looks". Then use the slider to decrease the strength. You most likely will never want it at 100%.
Tips for how I grade:
Keep your white balance where it should be and don't make the image too warm or too cool. Don't boost the contrast to crazy levels. Keep the image balanced. If you're going to add a fade, be subtle. Keep your colors relatively accurate. This is all dependent on the project of course. This is more so if you'd like to achieve a grade similar to mine.
I will be posting my Lightroom Presets in the future and coupled with this technique, you'll be able to achieve this look!
