A playthrough of Konami's 1992 NES game, Contra Force. This is one of those games that doesn't deserve quite the blasting that so many people give it. Sure, the Contra name provides expectations that the game just can't live up to, but then, it was never intended to be a Contra game in the first place. It's also not really worth playing with 2-players - the single-player mode struggles badly enough to keep a smooth speed to the gameplay. Introducing a second player just bogs it down even further. The biggest problem is probably that the speed makes the game incredibly easy - well, that and the abillity to jump forever just by holding down the A-button, and how that grants virtual invincibility if you have the power-up that shields you during jumps. Still, though, if you can take it as not part of the Contra legacy, there's a lot to good stuff here. The graphics are pretty excellent, the soundtrack is pretty mind-blowing in the usual Konami style, and it controls extremely well. ___ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
