SOUNDBITE: (German) Angela Merkel, German Chancellor "We (Merkel and Putin) are disturbed about the nuclear attacks of North Korea and we condemn it very clearly. Putin and Merkel shaking hands STORYLINE: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday denounced the killing of a reporter critical of the Kremlin as a "disgustingly cruel" crime that cannot go unpunished. He made the comments at a news conference after meeting Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor for talks in Dresden. Anna Politkovskaya was found shot dead at her Moscow apartment building on Saturday. She had been a sharp critic of President Putin and the conduct of Russia's war in Chechnya, Putin said the killers had done the Russian government no favour. Politkovskaya's death has sparked an international outcry about restrictions on press freedoms in Russia. German Chancellor, Angela Merkel said she was "disturbed and bothered about the murder of the journalist Anna Politkovskaya." "It is, for us (Merkel and Putin) very normal that freedom of press and democracy belong to each other. The Russian president made clear that everything will be done to investigate the murder and bring those responsible to justice," said Merkel. Merkel also condemned North Korea for its declared nuclear test. "We are disturbed about the nuclear attacks of North Korea and we condemn it very clearly. The international community has to stand and act together like they do with the nuclear programme of Iran and in that circumstance, we have very good exchanges of opinions with Russia," said Merkel.
