I had a bad experience on some prescription medications recently while having cluster headaches. Through the years I’ve always just managed the pain with narcotics and now with imitrex until I was headache free again.
In 2015 I started going through a cluster headache bout and got on the imitrex again. This time the pharmacist tells me that sumatriptan (imitrex) causes rebound headaches. So, I met with my MD concerned about this problem and he prescribed prednisone and topamax to offset the headaches and hopefully stop them.
After a few days he then prescribed pamelor as well with the intention of stopping the cluster headache attacks. I had bad reactions to the pamelor and stopped taking it immediately. I also had a horrible experience with the topamax when the dosage was increased.
This video explains in detail what happened and why I stopped taking the bad prescription medications to help relieve the cluster headache cycle.
The only thing that stops cluster headaches is imitrex or breathing oxygen.
