Available now at http://www.bjjwarehouse.com/gracie_jiu-jitsu_classic_gracie_gi/gra-1099.html This is a review of the Gracie Classic Gi, 100 percent cotton, single weave kimono. The jacket is a two piece construction and features a rubberized collar. This Ibjjf approved gi comes in white, weighs 3lbs 7oz and retails for 89.99 to 99.99 on bjjwarehouse.com Design The design is definitely minimal, just three sections with the Gracie triangle logo embroidered into the gi. There isn't any contrast stitching or branded seam tape or trim. It is, in living up to its name, a classic, old-school design. Fit and Feel I'm 5'8" and 160 lbs, which makes me a size 4 in the Gracie gi. The jacket was a good fit, and the single weave material is nice and soft. The sleeve cuffs are 22 cm wide, which is quite a bit wider than the 16 or 17 cm average. The pants were also very comfortable but quite long, about 2.5 inches longer than average. I let this gi hang dry so I don't have shrinkage info for you, but single weaves tend to shrink a fair amount so be careful if you want to toss yours in the dryer. Build Quality The Gracie Gi features the standard arm pit, side vent and crotch reinforcements along with triple stitching throughout the major stress zones. One great addition is the cloth taping along the inside of the collar. It adds smoothness and comfort. The sleeve cuffs also have cotton lining that is soft on the skin. This gi is well put together and should work great as a training gi. In Action The Gracie gi is light and comfortable. Just because it's a budget gi doesn't mean it sacrifices any enjoyment on the mats. It's oversized sleeve cuffs and soft collar make it easy for your opponent to get grips, but it also means you can use your lapel to choke your opponent quite easily. Ezekiel chokes are a breeze in this gi, too. Conclusion Along with the Fuji All Around kimono, this is another quality gi to add to the list of sub-$100 options. If you're just testing the jiujitsu waters or you need another training gi and want to keep the cost down, the Gracie Gi is an option that should be on your radar.
