Class 2 Amalgam Preparation. #14 MO. This video is meant to help my classmates pass their practical for my school. There are many ways to do class 2 preparation. I'm showing techniques that are fail proof that I thought works best. I honestly think these tips are sorta useless for real patients. watch in HD :D Watch my new video on crown preparation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEcsfixCVrI In response to a comment asking what I do different on patients: +Jaspii1 First of all, by the time you are seeing patients your hand skills will be good enough where putting a matrix band to protect the adjacent tooth or using as a guide to make a perfect box will not be necessary. And it is very difficult to place matrix band on real teeth that has not broken proximal contact. In that video i have two bands for maximum protection. And of course you wont need to wedge for protection since your hand skills will be good enough where you won't ditch the gingival floor. Some teeth don't even require to be prepared on the central grooves but just need a slot preparation. In that case you will start the preparation with the box first. You should only do this if the grooves of the occlusal surface is sound. I use a 330 bur that is 1.5mm but in reality you only need 245 bur that is 3mm in length. I only recommended using 330 bur to drop the box because it will lessen the chance that the buccal and lingual walls will be accidently opened up during the box making phase. I use a sharp bur to contour the axial wall. This is also not deeded since your hand skills will be good enough to do this with just a 245 or 330. I would still use different hatchets if there are bird beeks left that are not possible to be taken out without damaging the adjacent tooth. I Still sometimes use the sand strip to clean out bird beeks or extra enamel pieces hanging out. Again, I came up with those video tips to help students pass their simulation practical
