The tradition The tradition behind shaving the baby’s head is symbolic of “birth hair” that grew in the womb and something of significance. Or you could just keep it as a keepsake in your baby souvenir box. The Science The first haircut that a baby has at first month is extremely important. All newborns have a layer of "foetus fat" that is secreted from their skin, and it is mainly centralized on their heads which may lead to bacterium reproduction if not handled properly. Growth of hair requires protein, calcium and iron which a newborn lacks. Hence, a haircut is necessary for easy cleaning and maintenance.
