China's Communist Party Back in Business with Massive Political Gathering

China has begun its biggest annual political meeting, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing.

The start of CPPCC meeting had to be delayed for two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Normally a pompous event, it will give an opportunity to Chinese leaders to claim their success in the battle against the virus.

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the meeting, which brought together more than 2,000 delegates, all of whom wearing face masks.

The CPPCC meeting precedes the official opening of China’s top legislative body, the National People’s Congress (NPC), which elected Xi Jinping as President in 2013 with 99.86 percent of the vote.
