Chennai Egmore-Karaikudi Pallavan Express

Location:Nungambakkam railway station,3KM away from Chennai Egmore and 21KM more to Tambaram,Tamilnadu. Time:26th June 2014 16:14 Pallavan was introduced parallel to Vaigai as it could not complete the round trip of Madurai-Chennai-Madurai.Once, it was the most popular and flagship day train for people travelling between Trichy and Chennai Egmore as it takes 5 - 5.30 hrs for a one-way trip when compared to 8--9 hrs arduous journey by road. This train runs via the Chord line which is through Ariyalur, Vrriddhachalam, Villupuram to and fro from Tiruchirappalli. Due to persistent demands for a day train from the elected representatives and people of Pudukkottai and Sivaganga districts, Southern Railway decided to extend Pallavan Superfast Express till Karaikudi through Pudukkottai. The official announcement for the extension was made by the Union Minister for Railways in the Parliament during the Railway Budget- 2013. This created a strong agitation among the Tiruchirappalli commuters. Yet, the authorities were firm on the decision and extension was effected since 1 September 2013 from Karaikudi with a single stopping at Pudukottai. Karaikudi is a city in Sivaganga district and part of the area commonly referred to as "Chettinad". Karaikudi is declared a heritage town by the Government of Tamil Nadu,on account of the palatial houses built with limestone called karai veedu. Chettinad is a region of the Sivaganga district of southern Tamil Nadu state, India. Karaikudi is the capital of Chettinad, which includes Karaikudi and 74 other villages. 12605 departs Egmore at 15:45 daily and arrives Karaikudi at 23:25.
