Chasing waterfalls at Burden Falls in the Shawnee National Forest is fun because you don't really have to do a lot of hiking to see the best waterfalls that Burden Falls has to offer. But it is slick when wet, so please be careful and always practice safety first. The out and back trail to the waterfall base and back is less than a quarter of a mile. If you stay on top, you'll never leave sight of your vehicle. 2. Is this hike a rugged hike? Yes. The upper portion requires some climbing down rocks and the trail at the base is made up of steep rolling hills, creek crossings and rocky conditions. Please put safety as people have died at this located within the past 5 years from falling. 3. Do horseback riders use this trail? Yes. Horseback riders use the bottom portion of the trail. Please yeild to riders and speak to them to help their horses realize that you are human. 4. Any additional tips for this hike? Try to stay on the trail at all times to avoid hazardous conditions. Poison ivy and venomous snakes are present on this trail. Bring plenty of water and snack when visiting this trail. There are no trash services on this trail so please pack out what you pack in.
