Chancellor Merkel welcomes President Fischer

(12 May 2016) The Austrian President, Heinz Fischer, met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, on Thursday in Berlin. Fischer is facing a government crisis at home after Werner Faymann abruptly resiged as chancellor and head of the Social Democrats on Tuesday. Faymann quit in part over mounting opposition within his party to his swing from an open door policy for refugees to one of the most restrictive regimes within the EU.
