Censorship in China, and the surreal experience of being a foreigner in China is detailed by author of "Apologies To My Censor," Mitch Moxley. From being cast for Chinese TV and videos, to hired as a "rent-a-white-guy" for corporate presentations, to most substantially, working as a journalist and reporter for the english language media, Moxley guides us through modern China in this Lip News interview hosted by Gabriel Mizrahi.
GUEST BIO:
Mitch Moxley has written for publications including The Atlantic, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, TIME, the Globe and Mail, The Walrus, and others, and he is an editor at the online magazine Roads & Kingdoms. His first book, Apologies to My Censor: The High and Low Adventures of a Foreigner in China, was published by Harper Perennial in July 2013.
Mitch is originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, and he holds a masters degree in journalism from the University of Western Ontario, where he won the JM Penny Prize for Investigative Reporting. He lived in Beijing for six years and is currently based in New York City. He has filed stories from China, Burma, Mongolia, India, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Mitch has eaten scorpions, partied with models in Manila, and donned the skin of a Second Life avatar—all in the name of journalism.
