CCNA 200-120 (Part -3) | Free CCNA Video Training | what is collision and broadcast domain - when two or more device want to communication with another device in same time on same ethernet media they can be collided it called collision domain and all device received this data packet together called broadcast domain.
We know that when two or more devices or Computers want to send the data packet at the same time on a same transmission media, the data packet can be collided. Collision does occur on shared Ethernet network and the device is used in this type of network, is Hub or Repeater.
Hub is not an intelligent device and it can’t make forwarding decision based on MAC address or IP address, That’s why when two or more computers want to send a data packet at the same time, it can be collided, because Hub receives this data packet to it’s one port and forward it to all other ports, without knowing correct destination that’s why it makes collision.
After a collision took place, all devices or computers can understand there is a collision occurred and all data packets are transmitted again after limited interval of timing so, all devices which receive this collision are called a collision domain and all ports of a Hub belongs to a one big collision domain. Collision domain decreases the efficiency of network.
When one device is communicating with another device and all other devices are listening this communication in the same network segment, are called broadcast. Broadcast is an example of making noise. Like one student is shouting in a class room and all other students are listening his voice.
Those computers or devices which will receive this broadcast massage or broadcast data packet together, in the same network segment are called broadcast domain. One Computer or device does broadcast when it needs to know the MAC address or IP address of another computer or device.
Switch is an intelligent device , it can make forwarding decision based on MAC address. All ports of a switch are different collision domain but it has one big broadcast domain.
Router is more intelligent device than other. It can make forwarding decision based on IP address. Router has no collision domain and also it can separate broadcast domain.
CCNA 200-120 (Part -3) that I have described what is collision and broadcast domain and this Free CCNA Video Training 2014 is updated all it's video content.
