My husband and I experienced early pregnancy loss during the holiday season of 2019. We found out on Dec 24th that we had a "missed miscarriage." I was expecting to be 3 months along and was looking forward to sharing the good news with everyone, but instead, we found out the baby had no heart beat. We then walked through tragic moments and a surgery at Christmas time. Grief and mourning are hard. For me, I've found songwriting to be part of what I need to heal, as well as memorialize little "Baby R." While I was still pregnant, I had signed up for Hillside Inside's songwriting class in Guelph, Ontario, to begin in the New Year 2020. I had been on musical hiatus for quite a few years, and knew this songwriting course would be what I needed to get back to creating music regularly again. When we lost our baby, I almost cancelled on attending, but I'm glad I followed through and went to the class. I knew I wanted to write something to express my grief and remember the baby we lost. This song was the result. For anyone who may have experienced a pregnancy loss, I am so sorry, there are no words. My heart goes out to you. I'm so very sorry. ---- "Grief is what we think and feel inside ourselves after a significant loss. Mourning is the expression of those thoughts and feelings. Everyone who suffers loss experiences grief, but if you are to heal, you must also mourn." - Alan D. Wolfelt, from the book: "Healing Your Grieving Heart After Miscarriage: 100 Practical Ideas for Parents and Families" Elizabeth Rauchenstein, Singer songwriter, piano player in Guelph, Ontario, Canada
