The latest programs in the Denman Forestry Issues series explore the theme "Role of Forests and Forest Products in Carbon Mitigation and Energy Independence." Washington state is heavily forested, particularly western Washington. Our forests provide ecosystem services like forest products such as lumber, as well as clean water for drinking and salmon, wildlife habitat, aesthetics and recreational opportunities. We are now considering other ecosystem services that forests could provide, like energy in the form of biofuels and carbon sequestration.
This session tackles the subject of Carbon Mitigation and Energy Independence. Speakers include Rick Gustafson on "Sustainable Production of Biofuels," Shi-Ling Hsu on "The Ever-evolving Case for a Carbon Tax," and Kate Simonen speaks on "Zero Carbon Buildings? Opportunities and Challenges."
