This is not an off-roading video. Rather, it's a video about a great drive that I take several times a year when visiting my folks in Chula Vista, CA. Basically, rather than drive I-8 into and out of San Diego, I use a variety of several two lane roads that take me next to the Mexican border. The speed limit most of the way is 55 MPH--a difficult speed to maintain because of the winding road. Of course, my Jeep is made for expedition travel, not driving windy roads fast. But, it's still a very fun drive, and most especially if you happen to have a standard transmission vehicle with a nice sounding exhaust. Running up and down the gears, listening to the sound of the exhaust reverberating off the canyon walls is a driver's joy, regardless of your vehicle. For those who are interested, I travel a little over 80 miles from my folk's home in Chula Vista to the Inkopah exit/on-ramp to I-8 from Old U.S. Highway 80. The route is: Get off I-805 at Telegraph Canyon Rd/L Street in Chula Vista. Head east on Telegraph Canyon Rd. It will change to Otay Lakes Road as you pass the lakes. That is where my video starts. Continue on Otay Lakes Road until it ends at California Route 94/Campo Road. Turn right (east) and continue on Campo Road until it becomes Old U.S. Highway 80, continuing east until eventually it merges onto I-8 at the Inkopah on-ramp. Great road; most of the speed limit is 55, but be respectful in the several small communities you'll pass through. And in the last year or so bicyclists have discovered much of this route--be careful for them. The music is "Don't Turn Back" by Silent Partner. It was provided by Google.
