Cabela's Alaskan Guide Geodesic 8 Person Tent This is my fish camp set-up in a clearing behind a mountain house. In a pinch, this tent could also serve as overflow housing for teenagers who might be spending the weekend. Technical Specs Length and width: 12' 2" (3.7m) x 13' 7" (4.1m) Peak ceiling height: 6' 8" or 203.2 cm The tent packs down to 30" (76.2cm) x 14" (35.5cm) Weight: 31 lbs. or 14 kilograms (w/aluminum poles) The fiberglass version is heavier Max capacity: 8 person tent Yes, you can technically fit 8 people in this tent, but that would not be practical or comfortable. It will fit 3 cots along the walls, with some floor space left over in the middle of the tent. Sleeps 3 people or two adults with lots of gear comfortably. The tent has a geo dome design which can withstand significant winds. The vestibule is not huge, but roomy enough to store some gear, non-food items and muddy boots. It has a unique six-pole system. The crisscross design makes it incredibly stable and robust. The floor is made from abrasive-resistant oxford nylon. The bathtub design floor has an extra-thick 3,000mm-rated coating to block ground moisture. The full-coverage polyester fly is UV-resistant for extended life, and has a 2,000mm-rated polyurethane coating to shed pelting rain and wind-driven snow. The "D" design door and windows minimize exposure to rain, while allowing for easy access. It has 3 roof vents for added ventilation and condensation control. The door and vents have No-See-Um mesh screening that keep out small insects. It has smooth-operating #8 and #10 YKK zippers. It has mesh organizers on the interior walls for storing gear as well as a small mesh loft overhead. It has 4 cup holders to keep drinks off the floor. The heavy-duty, lightweight shock-corded aluminum poles give you a weight savings of 18% over the fiberglass poles. The aluminum poles also offer superior strength. The Floor Save is an optional item. It helps to protect the tent floor from wear and tear and makes for easy clean up. It is worthwhile in my opinion. Cons: It takes two people to set it up. It weighs 31 lbs. It's a bit pricy at $800 US dollars. This tent gets hot inside if pitched in direct sunlight when the temperature reaches 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Pros: It will accommodate 3 adults with cots and gear. It can withstand significant winds, heavy rain, sleet and snow. It is truly a 4-season tent for year-round use. It has two doors and a vestibule. The YKK zippers work flawlessly. It packs down to 30" x 14" and comes with its own carry bag. Possible improvements: two clear see through windows (i.e., made of clear Thermoplastic Urethane), and two collapsible awnings over each of the windows and an external ground pad to fit the entire footprint of the tent (including the vestibule). The Alaskan Guide 8 Person Tent shown in the video is comparable to the Cabela's Outfitter XWT Extreme Weather Tent (12' x 12'). The XWT is another good choice for someone looking for a premium basecamp tent. The XWT can withstand up to 75 mph winds. However, the XWT Extreme cost $1,000 and weighs a whopping 72 lbs. The Alaskan Guide 8 Person Tent is a premium basecamp tent. It makes a great car camping tent. It can be taken into the backcountry via bush plane, snowmobile, boat, horseback or mule. In short, this tent has never let me down. I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
