The Bulgarian government declared a state of emergency in the Smolyan municipality, Sunday, as around 330 villages in Southern Bulgaria were left without electricity after severe flooding and snowfall.
Floods also affected the border-crossing point of Kapitan Andreevo between Bulgaria and Turkey, one of the busiest between the countries, after the road leading to Turkey was left submerged by flood water. Vehicles were diverted towards other border points, causing kilometre-long traffic jams.
