Members of Maumee United Methodist Church near Toledo, Ohio wanted to create a comfortable place for people who might be intimidated by the stained glass and formality of a traditional church. Members began worshiping at the local bowling alley and the idea caught fire. Attendance quickly doubled, then tripled. New church member Mike Veres feels right at home: "It's more of a place of camaraderie and communion of people. You don't have the stigma of 'Shhh, you got be quiet, you're in a church.'"
