Boney M.: Boonoonoonoos (Full Album, Long Versions, Vol. 1) [1981]

Boney M.'s fifth album was a long way in the making. Originally scheduled for release in November 1980, it was postponed for another year and finally released late October 1981. There are numerous pressings of the album with different mixes and edits. On a white-label test pressing the tracks Malaika and Consuela Biaz were omitted. On some pressings Consuela Biaz plays after Homeland Africa, followed by Malaika as track 4 on side 2. It is a very interesting album to collect. It was #1 in Spain, #15 in Germany but failed to break the Top 75 in the UK after three consecutive #1 albums. Bobby Farrell was fired from the group just as the album was released. The singles Malaika/Consuela Biaz and We Kill The World were only moderately successful compared to Boney M.'s previous hits.
Limited Edition 2LPs were released in Germany, France, the UK and Venezuela, the French containing the longest versions of them all. I have assembled the 2LP album with the longest versions (some have been pieced together from various versions). Boonoonoonoos may not be Boney M.'s most commercial album but surely one of their finest artistic statements.
