The Presidential Office announced four new nominations for cabinet minister positions.
All heil from the ruling Democratic Party
According to our Hwang Ho-joon, they won't need to go through the gruelling process the PM nominee had to endure.
A surprise announcement was made by the top office on four cabinet posts, Tuesday morning.
" President Moon Jae-in has made nominations for the Ministries of the Interior,... for Culture, Sports and Tourism,... for Land, Infrastructure and Transport,... and for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries."
Unlike previous occasions, when President Moon announced his nominee picks to the press in person, this time it was done through the Blue House spokesperson.
Representative Kim Bu-kyeom, a four-term lawmaker, was nominated for Minister of the Interior.
Currently a member of the parliament's Strategy and Finance Committee... and the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, Kim has been recognized as a important voice in the fight against regionalism and an expert in the local self-governing system.
The culture minister nominee is Do Jong-hwan.
The two-term lawmaker is also a renown poet, known best for his book "You, My Hollyhock," written in 1986, Do's cultural insight was the main forte for his nomination, according to the top office.
Nominated to be the Transport Minister is Kim Hyun-mee.
Kim has been the first woman to chair the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts since 2016 and helped pass the 2017 budget earlier this year.
If confirmed by parliament, she will become the first female transport minister in Korean history.
Last but not least, Kim Young-choon has been nominated as the next Minister of Oceans and Fisheries.
Kim is a three-term lawmaker, known for his reform-mindedness.
He first entered politics in 2000, winning a seat with the formerly known Grand National Party, the predecessor of the now main opposition conservative Liberty Korea Party,... but switched sides in 2003.
Although approval by the National Assembly is not required, all nominees will undergo parliamentary confirmation hearings.
The Blue House says it has done its best to pick people without skeletons in their closets, but will leave it to each nominee to explain him or herself in case any allegations do arise.
The latest nominations come a day after President Moon called for the understanding of the people and of the opposition regarding the controversy surrounding some of his nominees.
