Blackjack Oak Hiking Trail Q & A: 1. How rugged in this trail? Moderately difficult. While the trail is well used and can be easily followed all year long, there are creeks, rolling hills, root and rocky surfaces and dangerous conditions along this trail. 2. How long is this trail and is it a loop? It is a out and back trail unless you loop it by using the paved road as a walk back which is what I usually do. Round trip will be about 2 miles. 3. Are there signs or blazes along this trail? No but the trail is well used and easy to see in all seasons. 4. Any suggestions? Bring a snack and plenty to drink. This is a thick forested area so buffalo gnats, mosquitoes and ticks seems to be increasingly more present than in other areas. Sometimes during the summer months, the mosquito presense is overwhelming. You might consider mosquito netting options for your face and neck. Snakes are present on this trail, including venomous copperhead snakes. Always watch your step and stay on the trail at all times.
