Benign Enlargement of Prostate (BPH) is a common Urological problem in elderly males. The surgical treatment is advised for those patients who fail to respond to medical management, or patient having complications of BPH like urinary retention , recurrent UTI, bladder stones, hematuria, renal failure etc.
Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate is the gold standard in the surgical treatment of BPH. The resection of the large prostate is a big challenge due increased vascularity of the prostate. There have been several modifications in TURP like Bipolar resection, use of thick loop etc.
In this video , we describe our technique of Bipolar Resection of the prostate for a large prostate without big median lobe.of TURP.
The concept of resection is to control the bleeding at the capsular level by resection at 5’o clock and 7o’ clock positions and at 1o’ clock and 11o’clock positions and creating a trough between the capsule and lobes. Finally, the lobes are resected at a faster speed which shortens operation duration with minimum bleeding. Any size prostate can be operated with this technique.
