Their story is one of leadership, planning, and foresight so well thought out and well done that in an era when the common cold could kill the strongest of men, they left for the unknown and suffered only a single fatality to an illness they could not prevent. All the while, their journals, saved for posterity, would place their journey into infamy. Men and women, of various walks of life, can take something from the journey. Bravery, equality, leadership, planning, and most of all teamwork, are all values these American heroes can teach. ? Of the leading pair that was Lewis and Clark, William Clark was the outdoorsman. He had cut his teeth on the frontier, serving in the U.S. Military and learning to fight and negotiate with Indians. He was an experienced hunter, a brave leader, and a talented map maker. One of the wonders of the expedition, Clark's map - which he drew by dead reckoning during the roughly 3,700 mile journey - was off by only 40 miles. ?
