The hip roll here is one half of the vertical infinity loop or figure 8 of the hips. Let us remember our vertical hips figure 8: roll your hip  in a circular motion - down, out, up and in... down, out, up and in... down, out, up and in...  down, out, up and in... Now let's take a half of this infinity loop and convert it into a travel step. You start the hip roll on the side where you weight is. As your hip reaches the top of its  vertical circle, now it's time to shift weight, but instead of just shifting weight onto a standing leg, you will make a step..... step.....then bring the other foot in, feet together.
