The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum owns a Bucyrus-Erie 22-B transit crane. Mounted on an FWD truck chassis, the crane's mobility allows it to easily move around the museum to serve different lifting needs. The crane is fully serviceable having recently seen a lot of attention. There is more work to do to improve the crane including some new paint and a little engine tuning on the truck's engine. The lower unit is powered by an International Harvester RD-501 six cylinder gas engine while the crane is powered by an International Harvester U-501 six cylinder gas engine.
On this Saturday, we see the crane being moved into position, tested out and used to lift some sheet metal siding from storage on to a waiting flatbed in some pretty tight quarters. Alas, the videographer also had to help with the load out so this video doesn't contain all the action of the day.
There will be more to come soon, but we hope you enjoy seeing this crane in action. As always, we also welcome new people to come out and volunteer with us to maintain and operate our equipment. We also welcome people just to come for a visit and please see our website for details. Please also consider a donation to help us continue to preserve these machines into the future.
