With They Shall Not Pass now available, the next downloadable content pack on deck is the Russian-themed “In the Name of the Tsar.” We don’t have a date for the release of the new DLC, but Battlefield did release a few new concept art images for us to drool over in the meantime. In the new "In the Name of the Tsar" DLC players, will ride in Galicia with the legendary Hussars during the Brusilov offensive. Partake in the skirmishes of the Albion assault in a freezing archipelago and fight in the snow covered ravines of the treacherous Lupkow Pass. The new concept art images have me excited for In the Name of the Tsar. We’ve seen hussars with lances in previous concept art, but the fact these have been shown twice, hopefully means we’ll be seeing lances in-game. Another thing I want to point out is the Putilov-Garford armored truck. If it’s included in Battlefield 1, it will make for a unique vehicle. The truck was equipped with two machine guns in side sponsons on either side of the vehicle, and a machine gun and 76mm cannon in a unique rear turret. They were intended for port defense and mobile artillery use. One image shows a famous Russian invention - the weapon shown in the Federov Avtomat. The semi-automatic rifle had a fire rate of about 400 rounds per minute, and fired from a 25 round box magazine. It also featured a distinctive wooden foregrip on the stock of the weapon. If the weapon appears in Battlefield 1, it’ll likely be a weapon for the medic class. Other potential weapons have been spotted in previous Battlefield 1 concept art for In the Name of the Tsar, including the MG 14/17 light machine gun. This weapon will be a perfect fit for the support class, so it’s definitely on the short-list for potential weapons in the DLC. More on MG 14/17: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYHOxaQwPSY The last new piece of concept art features a familiar behemoth in the Armored Train. Obviously it looks a bit different with the giant plow on the front of the train, but no less as awesome. This concept art is particularly interesting because it means a lot from a historical perspective. The armored train in Battlefield 1 is based on the real life train Zaamurets, which did actually serve on the Eastern Front in World War I. It’s journey is a fascinating one, and I have an entire episode devoted to the real life behemoth, which you can check out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7qSGcTFgzY Battlefield 1’s armored train will probably be the behemoth on the Lupkow Pass map – since fighting surrounds a railway and tunnel, as shown in previous concept art. The area was bitterly contested throughout WWI between the Russian and Austro-Hungarian armies. What are your thoughts on the new concept art for the DLC?
