F. Liszt Music Academy Orchestra / Albert Simon, conductor 1st piano: Imre Rohmann 2nd piano: Sándor Falvai 3rd piano: Zoltán Kocsis 4th piano: András Schiff Recorded in 1975 ~ The original version of the Concerto in A minor, BWV 1065, is not datable; it is then the 10th piece of the series by Vivaldi, marked op.3 and published around 1712, a concerto for four violins. Bach adhered essentially to the original work but he transposed Vivaldis B minor to A minor. In several places he wrote out the "obligatory" ornamentation, and above all, improved the texture according to his own taste, mainly at the end of the first movement. He reinforced certain parts, filled out relatively "vacant" sections with delicate counterpoint, composed more versatile bass parts, and indeed, did not refrain from deleting a bar which seemed to be superfluous. ~~~
