Bio By She Rox All Female Bands: Babes in Toyland are a Minneapolis, Minnesota trio that began in 1987, although at the start with four members, they became a trio when founder and guitarist Kat Bjelland took the lead vocal slot from the departed vocalist Cindy Russell, along with drummer and founder Lori Barbero they secured a bassist spot with Michelle Leon and found themselves at the forefront of an underground punk revival and were gaining notice quickly for their aggressive, brash hardcore alternative punk sound. With a fan base quickly growing they released the 1988 single "Dust Cake Boy" on the infamous indie giant label Subpop, the single followed up by the bands debut album, "Spanking Machine" released in 1990 even gained notice by Sonic Youth who asked the band to tour with them, this only helped open the band to an even larger fan base. Touring would be how the band would spend much of 1991 and with bands such as Rage Against The Machine, 7 Year Bitch and Dinosaur Jr. to name a few this only proved further the Babes were here to stay. Bassist Michelle Leon would leave in 1992 and Maureen Herman would replace her right before the band's most successful and highest selling album 1992's "Fontanelle", the following year the band release their second ep titled Painkillers which was out takes from Fontanelle, the first Ep, 1990's To Mother was essentially out takes from the debut album. 1995's "Nemesisters" would be the last release from the band and with mixed reaction from fans as well, the band admits to the album being diverse but many felt it lacked the intensity and brash rawness that the band had become known for. Maureen Herman would leave the band in 1997 due to medical reasons and Jessie Farmer would replace her, and even saw original bassist Michelle Leon rejoin for a short time. This line up would continue on until 2001 before calling it a day, however by 2014 the line up with Herman on bass would reunite and play a handful of shows, buzz over the band's reformation grew however securing the bass slot would plaque the band still with Maureen Herman's departure soon after the 2014 reunion. The band continues on playing current day with now bassist Clara Salyer, they once again, give not only long time fans but new fans a glimpse of what these amazing and talented musicians have achieved, and why the legacy of the band will live on far after most bands. like us at https://www.facebook.com/sheroxallfemalebands/
