Since the start of a series of reclamation project, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro has been a bustling and flourishing street. It also serves as an important gateway connecting the South Bay (Nam Van) to the Inner Harbour and what was once the North Bay (now inundated). Aside from the crowds of people at Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro near the new South Bay, one can also find old-style mansions lining both sides of the road, stretching westwards. The mansions served as a reminder of the good old days of San Ma Lou;. 亞美打利庇盧大馬路俗稱新馬路，東至南灣大馬路，西止於火船頭街。 1918年，新馬路工程竣工，澳葡政府將議事亭前地至內港路段命名為"亞美打利庇盧大馬路"，議事亭前地至南灣路段命名為"美副將大馬路"。後來統一命名為亞美打利庇盧大馬路，市民稱之為"新馬路"。 新馬路是澳門半島最為繁華熱鬧的街道，道路兩旁的建築見證了新馬路的往事。 南通商業大廈中國銀行，為興記酒店（域多利酒店）舊址。該酒店由英資開辦，樓高三層，是外國人在澳門最早開設的酒店，也是19世紀末期澳門最大的酒店之一。1928年改為利為旅酒店；1974年改建為南通大廈；1998年再度拆建，二十五層高的南通商業大廈告竣，中國銀行隨後入駐辦公。 新中央酒店原名"總統酒店"，1928年建成開幕，為當時澳門最高和首間設有電梯的酒店，1932年易名為"中央酒店"。1941年國際酒店開幕，是當時澳門樓層最高、設計最新穎、設備最現代的酒店。中央酒店為此斥資擴建，增至十一層以超過國際酒店，並更名為"新中央"。 新中央酒店北邊的大豐銀行大廈，原為澳門第一間戲院——域多利戲院舊址。1931年，該院開始播放有聲電影，為澳門首間播放有聲電影的戲院。
