Audition (オーディション) Torture Scene – Takashi Miike, 1999

Audition (オーディション) is a 1999 Japanese horror film directed by Takashi Miike, based on Ryu Murakami's novel of the same name. In the film, Shigeharu Aoyama is encouraged by his son to begin dating again. His friend, a film producer, stages a mock audition to help him choose a new wife. During the "audition", Aoyama is drawn to Asami Yamazaki and begins to pursue her, despite warning signs after the audition. The film concludes with this famous scene in which Yoshikawa drugs Aoyama and brutally tortures him. Due to the graphic nature of the film, Audition remains very controversial and some critics have called the ending "almost unwatchable".
