A lot of people don't realize the fact that RAM speed and latency have a significant impact on performance in the sections of the game where it is heavily CPU-bound. This is very much the case with older generation i5s and i7s. With my i7 4790k, there is a whopping 12-15 fps difference between DDR3 1600 and DDR3 2400 in both cases with the CPU OCed to 4.7 GHz. A slower RAM could easily push you down into the 40s where a faster one can keep you always above 60 on the same CPU and CPU clock speed.
