A lot of people don't realize the fact that RAM speed and latency have a significant impact on performance in the sections of the game where it is heavily CPU-bound. This is very much the case with older generation i5s and i7s. With my i7 4790k, there is a whopping 12-15 fps difference between DDR3 1600 and DDR3 2400 in both cases with the CPU OCed to 4.7 GHz. A slower RAM could easily push you down into the 40s where a faster one can keep you always above 60 on the same CPU and CPU clock speed. RAM timings shown: For DDR3 1600 @ 4:58 For DDR3 2400 @ 9:00 PC specs: i7 4790k @ 4.7 GHz ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 Motherboard Gskill TridentX DDR3 1600 vs 2400 (4:58 vs 9:00) Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti G1 Gaming Corsair (cheap) SSD Windows 10 64-bit Driver version: 388.31 Settings shown in the video (2:08 and 5:23)
