Amazon Expected to Launch Vesta 2019
Lookout Roomba, Vesta’s going to be running the home soon.
The task-specific robotic vacuum cleaner known as Roomba has succeeded where other attempts at home robots have failed due to high prices and low functionality.
In 2019, Amazon looks to introduce a new home robot loaded with artificial intelligence and the camera and computer capabilities found in many autonomous vehicles.
Code named Vesta, Bloomberg news recently unveiled the project as Amazon R&D continues to hire mechanical, sensor and software engineers to complete Vesta development.
Sony has a higher-end Robot dog named Aibo, but Amazon will likely target dwellers seeking more value in their first home robot.
Amazon’s not new to robots. Thanks to the 2012 acquisition of Kiva Systems, they already deploy robots in industrial applications… you’ve probably already seen those little orange Kivas in their fulfillment centers.
But robots, just like most humans need hands. It will be interesting to see if Vesta proclaims: “Look Ma, no hands.”
