The Frenchman Mine was a extensively developed copper prospect located in Washington State. The mine was developed on one level with about 1,700ft of underground workings.
The deposit was discovered in 1898, mining commenced in 1903. The 550ft long crosscut attempted to intersect a vein that was discovered further up on the hill at the surface. The vein was not rich enough for the mine to profit, the mine was closed and all equipment was removed.
Several cabins were once located near the mine's portal, but these cabins have since collapsed and disappeared.
This mine neighbors the Sunset Mine; one of Washington's most successful hardrock mines. The Sunset is in very poor condition with very limited access to the old workings.
