Get ready to party, because Alfredo De La Fe is back! This is his first release since his 2005 collaboration with Colombia's Fruko (Julio Estrada). De La Fé, in case you didn't know, is the highly regarded master violinist who helped introduce instrument, normally in an Afro-Cuban charanga setting, into the salsa arena. He's performed and recorded with the Fania All Stars, SAR All Stars, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Jose Albertro "El Canario" etc., etc. His ability to coax gorgeous and unworldly sounds from his electric violin is legendary. On this new album, de la Fé teams up with young Colombian star Rodry-Go, and the result is a successful musical party that breaks down tropical Latin musical barriers: Sin limites.
The album opens with a killer version of the Cuban salsa dance track Que Se Sepa (José Couto). But there is a great mix of influences on Sin limites, including salsa, charanga (the fiery Oyelo Tocar and killer Pachanga Changa), reggaetón and modern urban pop, and all with a very heavy with rhythm and groove. There's also a terrific Latin pop track Bad Girl, sung in english, that should, in a just world, make its way into the larger world-wide market. The track, written by De La Fe and Raheem De Vaughn (who sings it) can be seen as a fresh take on a theme made popular in Latin pop by Santana's mega-hit Evil Ways.
The project was recorded in parts New York, Switzerland and Florida and, with the exception of a few, most tracks were penned by De La Fe or Rodry-Go (Rodrigo Rodriguez). Special guests include Adalberto Santiago (No Volvere), Jimmy Bosch, Raheem De Vaughn, Papi Sanchez, Franco Magistro and Jun LP. Also with Raúl Agraz, Richie Viruet, Pablo Santaella, Milton Salcedo, Sony Bravo and other luminaries. A big DJ Alert and... Very Highly Recommended.
