Some hymenopterans are also phytophagous (developing on plants). Many hosts of hymenopterans are pests of agricultural crops, forestry and ornamental plants. So far, beneficial parasitic wasps (Hymenoptera) play a vital role in biological control of many pests' populations. Some details are given about the family Trichogrammatidae (Hymenoptera, chalcidoidea) - egg-parasitoids of different groups of insects, mainly Lepidoptera and Coleoptera.
