A Short Boxing Mitt Drill

One of the arts we work o a lot in this class Western Boxing. Western boxing ahs great footwork and can be learned fairly quickly. Over the years I've realized that one of the best most efficient methods of training punching is the focus mitts. These hand pads are sometimes also called punch mitts, or focus pads. The reason that this is one of the best methods to develop punching is because the coach or trainer can give immediate feedback to the student. Over time all of these small corrections add up to create a student who has solid basics. Training with the mitts has many benefits. First, you don't need a lot of equipment or a gym, you just need a partner. The mitts themselves are pretty cheap. You could get a pair for about $20 and they are small and portable as well. Focus mitt training is fun but yet challenging at the same time. Working out like this can burn a lot of calories fast. By the end of a focus mitt workout most of the students at our martial arts school are sweating and breathing hard.
