India is the fourth largest producer and the third largest consumer of electricity. Greenhouse emissions by the energy sector in India have been on the rise since Independence, mainly because of the use of coal. India is now reforming energy policies to produce more power from renewable resources of energy and this episode of Lighting The Himalayas series showcases how India transmits 330 GW (gigawatts) of power to a population of 1.3 billion people.
