A Lesson in Defensive Driving: Check Your Blind Spot, but not for too Long! | Dash Cam

Footage from the car's BlackVue DR550GW-2CH forward and interior-facing lenses helps show us exactly when and for how long the driver looks over his left shoulder to check his blind spot in order to change lanes to the left. The driver is approaching a merging on-ramp with multiple vehicles about to merge into his current driving lane. At the exact moment that traffic slows down to allow for the merging cars, our driver decides to check his blind spot. As you can see, the driver looks over his shoulder and away from the road in front of him for about three to four seconds. That's all it took for the traffic in front of him to drastically slow down, and cause a dramatic rear-end accident.
