27 Sept 2018 An afternoon at Marton Junction The tracks off to the left go to Wanganui and New Plymouth and to the right head off North to Auckland The afternoon starts with the South bound Northern Explorer going to Wellington. This is the North Islands only long distance passenger train and is very popular. Next is a timber train from Wanganui. Then a shunt comes to get the Malteurope wagon which needs to get to Wellington for the South Island ferry. Next the North bound express freight arrives and parks waiting for the South bound freight to pass. Quite a selection from a short period in the afternoon. Some interesting info The 3rd Electric loco 30007 was one of 2 text locomotives imported in 1985 to test the electric lines. Between Bunnythorpe and Feilding speeds up to 140 Kmh were reached.
