(Note: Haul video starts at 2:56) :) I learned about the Fukubukuro (福袋) "tradition" in Japan from my colleague and got excited to try it out! Every start of the year, most stores would go on massive sales in Japan and sell bags with random items in it for a set price. In previous years, stores completely made the contents secret, but recently, they would reveal some items that are in the bag so that you'd get an idea if you want to buy it or not. Japanese residents also sell the items they don't want online, or trade them with their friends who also got lucky bags. I never tried buying a mystery bag before since I don't want to risk spending my money on something I'm not sure I'm gonna like, but for the sake of experience, I went for it this year! I also visited One Way store in Shibuya 109 beforehand and generally liked their styles, so I thought it was a good choice for me to get from them :D To be honest, it was really fun! hahaha :D I do worry about the vocal cords of sales people though. They work so hard to promote their fukubukuros and "time sales" (additional discounts/promo at certain times of the day). LOL. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [What went down before this haul...] I went to Shibuya 109 on January 2, 2020 at around 9:30am, just right on time for their opening. There wasn't any line when I got there but there were a couple of people entering the store the same time as me. In other YouTube videos from previous years, I saw that people line up for some stores, but maybe that changed since I see some stores offering Fukubukuros online instead. Ahh...the convenience that technology brings today. LOL. But I wanted to try going to the store itself, so I was there early. There were security guards around the area to keep the peace (haha) and make sure no one ran around. By around 11am, some areas were sooo crowded. But still orderly. Anyway, it was fun! The bills and trying to fit these in my suitcase are a downer though. :p If I lived in Japan I would probably not shop the entire year and do a one-time shopping spree at the start of each year hahaha =)) The only downside I could think of is that they sell stuff for winter/cold months...not sure if there are places that include summer wear in their lucky bags...
