2019 Honda Insight Test Drive Review: The Days Of Ugly Hybrids Are Over

The first and second generation Honda Insight were both highly forgettable hybrids, which did little to draw consideration over the equally ugly Toyota Prius. Now, Honda is back with the third generation Insight, and wow, what a change it has undergone. The Insight is now based on the same platform as the 10th generation Civic, meaning it actually looks pretty. In fact, we had plenty of people tell us they thought this is Honda's best-looking sedan. Under the hood, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine combines with an electric motor for a total output of 151 horsepower and 197 lb-ft of torque, which are class-leading. Handling is also pretty good, as the Insight borrows heavily from the fun-to-drive Civic. Pricing is also very affordable, with the base LX trim starting at just $22,830. Even the top Touring trim manages to pack a ton of features for just $28,090. We don't know why it has taken an automaker so long to build a hybrid car that looks and drives this well, but we are ecstatic now that it has finally happened.
