One significant festival in the Indian culture, Diwali or Deepavali, the festival of lights, is celebrated around the world. The main theme is the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. People light traditional earthen diyas and decorate their houses with colourful Rangoli artwork. During Diwali, families and friends share sweets, and give food and gifts to those in need. It is also a tradition for homes to be cleaned and new clothes to be worn at the time of the festival. This year, Deepavali was on Sunday, 27 October 2019. GESS celebrated Deepavali on Friday, 1 November 2019. Primary school students enjoyed Indian cultural activities, listened to the Deepavali story, watched classical and Bollywood dances by our very own Bollywood Crew, and a magnificent Bhangra and Dholl (a type of Indian drum) performance. We sincerely thank all the wonderful parent volunteers whose help has been indispensable in making this celebration a success. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Music and Copyright by Vasantham Mediacorp Music Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkY7R4P7E8o ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ GESS | International School in Singapore Website: https://www.gess.sg/en Contact: +65 6461 0881
