Shop new Toyota Yaris iA listings: https://goo.gl/kXtWzY Toyota’s 2017 Yaris iA sedan is basically a re-badged Mazda 2 subcompact that’s entirely different from the Yaris hatchback. It’s small and inexpensive, but Chris Wardlaw calls it the best subcompact sedan out there, complementing its engine, ride, and handling and giving it a perfect 10 for cost effectiveness. It doesn’t even attempt to hide its Mazda roots, but that’s fine given what a strong job Mazda does, particularly with interior look and feel. The Yaris iA uses a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder that produces 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque, paired with a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic. With the automatic, it gets 35 mpg combined; the manual drops that number to 34. The Yaris iA has lively handling, but its modest power makes highway on-ramps and passing on two-lane roads a little challenging. Technology is Yaris iA’s weakness, unfortunately, since it does not offer a navigation system, satellite radio, or support for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
