2017 iMac 27" 5K Hands On Review: First Impressions & 40GB RAM. I needed to upgrade from my 21.5" 2013 iMac because it was dying and only 8 GB Ram. The 27 inch models allow the user to upgrade the RAM and a few other parts itself. Since it came with 8gb and 4 slots of RAM, I added two more Corsair 16GB chips to now have 40GB Ram. In testing, Adobe programs with the 2017 upgraded graphic card and processor speed, I have no issue with performance.
