http://www.autobytel.com/toyota/rav4-ev/2012/ About a decade ago the first Toyota RAV4 EV hit the roads, but that little electric crossover was destined to be a vehicle used by local government and utility company employees. Fast forward a handful of years to present day and we now have the 2nd generation Toyota RAV4 Electric Vehicle. For this EV, Toyota joined forces with the leader in the electric vehicle industry: Tesla. The 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV combines the mechanical reliability associated with Toyota and the Electric Motor and Battery Technology Tesla has been developing for years; into one great package. The RAV4 has the ability to drive over 100 miles on a single charge making it one longest range EVs on the market. The base price for a 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV is $49,800 but there are plenty of Government Incentive to get the price reduced a bit.
The exterior of the 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV includes unique elements to differentiate this electric vehicle from other ordinary crossovers on the road. Toyota has added custom blue EV badges on the front, side, and back of the car. The aerodynamics have been addressed in an effort to lower the drag coefficient. Most noticeable is the front grille which is smoother and more aerodynamic, the lack of openings improves airflow and thus reduces drag. The headlights are full LED units and even the side mirrors have been reengineered to improve airflow.
Underneath the hood is the electric power plant supplied by Tesla that includes the motors, inverters, and an all-new state of the art battery pack that helps the 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV get over 100 miles per charge. Power output is a healthy 280 lb-ft. of torque which is immediately available.
On the inside the RAV4 EV is very similar to the gasoline version with a couple of upgrades here and there. Some of the controls like the shifter are similar to that of a Prius. The center stack though is certainly unique featuring a 7-inch color touch screen display and Eco Gauges next to the climate controls.
