The 1715 Treasure Fleet was a Spanish treasure fleet returning from the New World to Spain .The galleons were fully loaded with tons of gold and silver coins. At two in the morning on Wednesday, July 31, 1715, seven days after departing from Havana, Cuba, eleven of the twelve ships of this fleet encoutered a Catogory 4 or 5 hurricane. The hurricane destroyed many of the ships near present-day Vero Beach, Florida. Eleven treasure laden ships that made up the 1715 fleet wrecked/capsized. 3 ships sank in deep water the others wrecked on shallow jagged reef formations or shoals. To this day a few of the shipwreck locations have not been found.
The precious cargo included gold chains, gold coins , gold bars , gold nuggets religious relics/artifacts , silver ingoits / bars , silver coins , reales , pieces of eight , emeralds/ jewels/ perals, and Kangxi Chinese porclain
