08. Driving through Pripyat main Square under a heavy storm

Our first impression of this abandoned town can barely be more disturbing. It has been a good drive from Kiev, with nice weather until we cross the controls in the exclusion zone. We have good weather when we visit the nuclear power station but the minute that we go into Pripyat, weather changes drastically. When we cross Prypiat's main square, we are not able to descend the car. A storm welcome us to this apocalyptic city. First impression is that water and radioactive particles are not a good combination. We will have to be careful with the vegetation to avoid dragging unwanted waste on our clothes. The young city of Pripyat wasn't told about the disaster until after 2 days that it happened, and the world only found about the incident when a radiation detector went off in Sweden. Ha sido un buen trayecto en coche desde Kiev, hasta cruzar los controles de la zona de exclusión. Tenemos buen tiempo cuando visitamos la central nuclear, pero en el momento en que entramos en Pripyat, hay un cambio radical de tiempo y se pone a llover. Cuando cruzamos la plaza principal de Prypiat, no somos capaces de descender del coche. Una tormenta nos da la bienvenida a esta ciudad apocalíptica. La primera impresión es que el agua y las partículas radiactivas no son una buena combinación. Tendremos que tener cuidado con la vegetación para evitar arrastrar los residuos no deseados en nuestra ropa.
