The trial of the British heiress and Jeffrey Epstein’s confidant Ghislaine Maxwell began at a Manhattan federal court in New York City on Monday.
Maxwell has been in a Brooklyn jail since July 2020 on charges of grooming underage girls for now-deceased American financier Jeffrey Epstein and other rich and powerful men to sexual abuse. She has pleaded not guilty and unsuccessfully tried several times to be released on bail before the trial.
The indictment cites four victims who, according to prosecutors, were groomed between 1994 and 2004, when some were as young as 14 years old at the time.
